Australia's EV share just doubled in a year
Battery-electric cars went from 11.3% to 24.2% of Australian new-car sales in a year, and now edge out petrol.
Battery-electric vehicles made up 24.2% of Australian new-car sales in September 2026, up from 11.3% a year earlier: about 2.1 times the share. In September, EVs (26,287 sales) also edged out petrol cars (26,018) for the month. Plug-in hybrids added another 9.3% of the market.
